Dear Members,

Due to the restrictions on social gathering under Covid-19, we are unable to hold our AGM on 2 May this year. However, for transparency and good governance, I am publishing the following documents for your scrutiny.

  • The Roll of Honour of those members published on the Association website who have died in the previous 12 months.

  • The minutes of the previous AGM.

  • My Chairman’s’ Report.

  • The accountant’s report on the independent examination of the Association Trust account.

Association members are able to access these documents in the members-only area here

There are no decisions to be made but members are asked to note:

  • The proposal and action to hold an annual ceremony at the KOYLI Memorial in Doncaster were fulfilled. A wreath-laying service was held at the Memorial on 1 August 2019 and attended by approximately 70 members with the intent that this will be an annual event. However please note that this year the service has been cancelled due to Covid-19 although if possible we will try to arrange for a wreath to be laid under local arrangements in order to maintain the tradition.

  • The accounts for FY 18/19 have been received by the Charity Commission according to their rules.

  • For this and subsequent Financial Years (FY), the end of the FY for the Association Trust account has been changed to 30 September and therefore this FY 19/20 has been extended until 30 September 2020. The accounts will be closed on 30 September, independently examined by our accountants and presented to the trustees in February 2021 so that they can be presented to the AGM next April. This reduces the delay in the AGM accepting the accounts before they are submitted to the Charity Commission.

I welcome any comments or questions – please send them to Colin Cranswick at assnsecyorkshire@the-rifles.co.uk by 1 June 2020. They will be collated and a Q and A sheet published on the website. If circumstances allow we will try and hold an AGM in the autumn but if not then we will have to wait until next spring.

In the meantime, my very best wishes to you and your families and I hope you are able to keep safe during the lockdown. Do let us know if you or a fellow member needs help at this difficult time.

Graham Whitmore

Lt Col (Retd)

Vice President and Chairman of Trustees
