KOYLI Memorial Silver Statuette Presented to the People of Pontefract

A Silver Statuette of the KOYLI Memorial Statue was presented to the people of Pontefract by Maj (Retd) Andrew Penny, KOYLI and LI, on behalf of the Rifles Light Infantry and KOYLI Association. Cllr Sandra Pickin, Wakefield MDC Armed Forces Champion, accepted the Statuette on behalf of the people of Pontefract.

The presentation of the KOYLI statuette took place on 6 Jul 2019 during Pontefract and Wakefield Armed Forces Day in Pontefract Park in front of the public attending the Armed Forces Day celebrations. Standard Bearers carrying the KOYLI, LI and Rifles Standards provided an honour guard and were joined by cadets from E (The Rifles) Company.

This was the latest presentation of a silver KOYLI statuette to one our Freedom Town and Cities, It marks the historic links between Pontefract and the KOYLI that have endured through the Light Infantry and continue to date with The Rifles who's Y Company 8 Rifles has its Company Headquarters in Minden House.

The statuette will go on permanent display in Pontefract Library in August 2019.
