York Minster Memorial Service Brings Together The 5 Pillars of The Rifles
On Saturday, 26 September, York Minster was the venue for a Regimental memorial service for The Rifles, Light Infantry, and KOYLI, bringing together the 5 Pillars.
The service underscored the connections within The Rifles, across generations and communities, and highlighted the significance of its five pillars. The gathering included serving Riflemen, Rifles reservists, Rifles cadets, veterans, and communities, showcasing the Regiment’s vibrant community. The presence of the Lord Lieutenant of Durham, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, and Mayors from our Freedom towns in Yorkshire and the North East, reinforced the Regiment’s regional connections.

Following the service, a lunch hosted by Colonel Mark Laverick, Rifles Colonel North and President of our Association, provided an opportunity for fellowship, enabling attendees to reconnect and share stories.
Certificates of Appreciation were presented to Robert Smith and Alan Whitehead for their contributions to the Association, emphasising the value of ongoing service and support.

The day at York Minster was characterised by dignity, gratitude, and a shared commitment to the Regimental family, honouring past sacrifices and reinforcing the bonds that sustain The Rifles, and the Association.
