THE KOYLI SURPLUS PROPERTY SALE
10 JUN – 10 JUL 23

THE REASON FOR THE SALE

Welcome to the first ever sale of former KOYLI surplus property holdings.  The sale is the result of the recent (2006) change from LI to Rifles.  But in particular, the loss of Minden House Pontefract as our HQ and storage facility, along with changes to some former TA Centres, Wakefield, and Doncaster in particular, have led to this action. Efforts have been made to redistribute property where possible, to the extent in some cases of returning “presented and donated” items to the original owners.

What was left has been distributed or located as follows, to our Museum Gallery in Doncaster, where it will feature in any changes to the displays currently on site, as affected periodically by our curator.  Items have been allocated to the new KOYLI Archive, Library and Research Centre, formally the Medal Room on Chequer Road.  This area is due to open in Spring 24, and items will be displayed on the walls and corridors of this new facility.  Items not selected for display may be advertised for sale at a later date.   Details of any additional sale of property will be advertised via this website.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

The sale is open to all former KOYLI members, and to former Light Infantry Officers and Soldiers who served in our Yorkshire TA Company locations.  You must use this bidding form. The property sale is not open to those Officers and Soldiers who only served in the KOYY(LI) or, in the case of Wakefield, the Royal Engineers.

SALE DATES

The sale for eligible KOYLI and LI personnel will run from 10 Jun to 10 Jul.  After this date, any items left over will be made available to the General Public and will run from 15 Jul to 10 Aug.  You must use this non members bidding form.  This will be conducted on a “first come, first served basis”.

FINAL DISTRIBUTION

If after 10 Aug 23 any items remain, further attempts may be made to donate items to suitable charities for their “funding” programmes.  Any items remaining following this will be disposed of following museum disposal procedures.

ITEM CONDITION

Not all the items of property in this sale are in what can be described as “being in 100% condition” and are therefore sold on the basis of “bought as seen in the photographs”.  In particular, some of the plaques show their age.  Silver and EPNS items require a good clean, and some items do not seem to have an immediate KOYLI connection, other than they were part of a TA Centres property portfolio.  Some of our “older members” may well see the KOYLI Connection.

SALE PROCEEDS

All proceeds of the sale will be deposited in our museum fund for future use; as the Museum and Property Trustees see fit.

CONDUCT OF THE SALE AND SECURITY OF INFORMATION

You may only submit a bid on the proforma attached to the sale site.  It must be signed; no signature, no bid, and placed in a sealed envelope labeled "KOYLI Property Sale Bid".  The sealed bid must be sent to arrive by 10 Jul to the Association Office, Minden House, Wakefield Road, Pontefract, WF8 4ES.  The envelopes containing bids will not be opened until 11 Jul.  At the end of the sale, the information provided on the proforma will be held on file for 1 year in the Association Office under GDPR rules.  The proforma' will not be available to any unauthorised personnel as per the Association GDPR policy.

PRICING / BIDDING

There will be no minimum price on any item that does not show a set price, e.g., some items such as cutlery and plaques may be sold in sets with a per price set.  Some items of cutlery and crockery are available as individual items and priced as such,

Items such as Pictures and Silver / EPNS that do not show a price will be sold to the highest bid.  You are advised to submit your bid and then show the highest amount you are prepared to pay if you become involved in competition with other bidders.  e.g., if two or more bidders initially bid the same price, your highest amount you would be prepared to pay would be used in £1.00 increments to outbid your competitors.  Where two or more bidders end up with the same bids, either David Wroe or Colin Cranswick will contact the bidders and ask whether they wish to increase their bid.

Winning bidders will be notified as soon as practicable after 11 Jul.  Items must be collected from Pontefract on days arranged between David Wroe, Colin Cranswick, and the individual.  Bidders who live some distance away will have to arrange a proxy to collect on their behalf.

DISPUTES

If after receiving the item you bid for, you are dissatisfied, you should contact David Wroe or Colin Cranswick via the Pontefract office to discuss your grievance.
