Mr Simon Mark Ockenden - Late 8LI and KOYY(LI)

Updated: Jan 16

It is with great sadness that I have to inform members that Mr Simon Mark Ockenden, late 8LI and KOYY(LI) died on 30 December 2023 aged 56 after a short illness.

Simon joined 8LI on its formation in the mid 1980s, he remained with the battalion until it was disbanded in the mid 1990s when the battalion became the King's Own Yorkshire Yeomanry (Light Infantry) (KOYY(LI)) as a light reconnaissance unit of the Royal Armoured Corps. He was respected by the permanent staff and all ranks of the Battalion and Yeomanry Squadron as a reliable and effective soldier.

Our thoughts and condolences at the sad time are with Simon's partner, his family and his many friends who served with him in the Territorial Army.

As the bugle sounds 'No More Parades' and you take your place in the FRV,

your duty done with honour and distinction.

Rest in Peace Simon.

Cede Nullis.
