It is with great sadness that I have to inform members that Maj (Retd) Harry Roy Burnett MBE late KOYLI, and LI died on 04 Apr 22 aged 85.
Roy (as he was known) served with the KOYLI , 2LI, and 8LI. Roy was promoted through the ranks to Major and appointed Quartermaster with 2LI and 8LI. Roy was posted to his home town of Wakefield in 1985 to raise the 8th Battalion The Light Infantry, the newest Territorial Army Infantry Battalion at that time. He was awarded the MBE for his work in raising the Battalion.
Roy was renowned for his attention to detail, strict adherence to the rules, and his sense of humour. He was hugely respected by all ranks.
Our thoughts and condolences at the sad time are with Roy's family, and his friends. Roy's family have posted the follow obituary for their father:
Major (Retd) Harry Roy Burnett MBE passed away peacefully on April 4, 2022 after a long illness. Roy served with the KOYLI, 2LI and 8LI.
We take great comfort in the support that his family, friends and comrades gave him during his illness and sharing fond memories of his time in the service. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family and his country, his generosity and his quiet strength, but especially for his wicked sense of humour.
As the bugle sounds 'No More Parades' and you take your place in the FRV,
your duty done with honour and distinction.
Rest in Peace Roy.
Cede Nullis.
