Barnsley Virtual 75th Anniversary VE Celebrations


All virtual events will be shown online via Barnsley Council’s Facebook page - (don’t worry if you don’t use Facebook - you can still access the page even if you don’t have a Facebook account ).

Friday’s events will start at 10.45 with a short speech from the Mayor, Cllr Markham followed by a Civic service that will incorporate Barnsley Music Service, Churchfield British Legion, 2 minute’s silence at 11am. This will be followed by Barnsley and District Scottish Society performing Battle O’Er and VE DAY 75 on the bagpipes finishing with prayers from Fr Stephen Race of St Mary’s. Throughout the day there will be various other activities which are listed as follows:-



12.30 pm - War stories from Barnsley libraries

1.30 pm - Live Broadcast from a Vintage Tea Party that you could join in with from the comfort of your home

2.00 pm - War stories from Barnsley libraries

3.00 pm - In line with the timing that Winston Churchill declared the end of the War in Europe we are asking residents to participate in a toast on your doorsteps

4.00 pm - Barnsley Museums will present a remembrance film

5.00 pm - Performance of ‘We’ll meet again’

6.00 pm - Barnsley Libraries will host a special VE Day story time for children

7.00 pm - Premiere of commemorative VE Day tribute featuring Barnsley’s Historic Landmark.
