Edlington Festival Doncaster - Bugles Sound for Mayor and his Family


Association Members with Mayor of Edlington Cllr Robert Reid, his father Robert Morris Reid and uncle Jim Reid both ex KOYLI and 2LI

Association members Major Derek Searby, Steve Tagg, his wife Elaine and Colin Cranswick were in Edlington on Saturday 28 Jul for the Edlington Festival with the Association gazebo. The recruiting team from Y Coy 8 Rifles were also at the event. Steve and Colin, carrying the KOYLI and Rifles Standards, took part in the parade through Edlington to the location of the pit head of the former Yorkshire Main Colliery for a service of Remembrance. OC and 2ic of Y Coy 8 Rifles, Major John Elms and Capt Ben Clare, with a marching contingent from Y Coy also took part in the parade. Major Derek Searby was a guest of the Mayor of Edlington Cllr. Robert Reid.

Back at the Festival, after the parade, the Mayor with his father, Robert Morris Reid who was a bugler in the KOYLI and 2LI, and the Mayor's uncle, Jim Reid also ex 2LI joined Steve and Colin for a photo and a chat. Jim and Colin served together in 2LI.

Robert and Jim will be joining Steve on 7 August at 7.45pm in the bar of Danum Road Army Reserve Centre for the relaunch of the Doncaster branch of the Rifles Light Infantry and KOYLI Association. All former Riflemen, Light Infantrymen and KOYLI in the Doncaster area are asked to come alone to Danum Road to relaunch the Doncaster branch. The branch will then meet monthly on the first Tuesday.
