Standards Blessed in Edlington, Doncaster ahead of the Edlington Festival

At St John's Church in Edlington, Doncaster the Rifles and KOYLI Standards were blessed along with NUM Banners ahead of the Edlington Festival on Saturday 28 July.
Our Standard Bearers Robert Smith, Pontefract Branch, and Colin Cranswick, Regimental Association Secretary, joined the Mayor of Edlington, Robert Reid, Edlington youth ambassadors, and members of the community for the blessing service. The Mayor who's has a family connection to the Association through his father who was a Bugler in the KOYLI and his uncle Jim Reid who was in 2LI.
On Saturday morning the NUM Banners and our Standards, carried by Steve Tagg Doncaster Branch Secretary and Colin, will be paraded through Edlington to a service of Remembrance at the location of the Pit Head of the former Yorkshire Main Colliery before arriving at the Yorkshire Main Welfare ground for the town festival. Members of Y Coy 8 Rifles who have been recruiting in the town this will also be at the festival.
It is hoped that will see former members of the Rifles, Light Infantry and KOYLI who live in the area.
