Sgt Kevin Hurst REME (son of Malcolm Hurst)

Many former members and families of KOYLI/2LI will remember Kevin who grew up in 2LI the son of Mal Hurst. Kevin aged 55, who served 22 years service with REME, sadly passed away suddenly on 7 Oct 2017.

We send our condolences to Kevin's family and friends. RIP Kevin your duty done take your place in the FRV with your dad.

The funeral which took place at St Joseph's Church in South Elmsall was attended by family, friends, military and ex military from the REME, Artillery and from the KOYLI/2LI in which Kevin grew up. The funeral cortege was escorted for the last 100 metres by Standard Bearers carrying Standards of the REME, KOYLI and Royal British Legion. Following the Mass Kevin's coffin draped in the Union Flag was taken Carr Lane Cemetery South Kirkby where long time family friend Pete Bate sounded Last Post and Reveille. The wake was held back in South Elmsall at the Empire Club where many stories were exchanged of Kevin growing up in the Battalion with many old friends meeting up again.
