Coronavirus (Covid-19) May Update from Vice President and Chairman of Trustees

Dear Members,

I am writing to update you on Association matters following the most recent government guidance on the easing of lockdown measures.  But before doing that on behalf of myself and my fellow Trustees may I offer our deepest condolences to those of you who have lost members of your family or friends due to Covid-19 and our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

Although there has been some easing of restrictions, and hopefully more to follow, I do not yet see it changing our current policy and decisions which I repeat and summarise below:

  • Association and Branch meetings and functions remain cancelled until further notice.

  • The AGM due to be held on 2 May was cancelled although key documents are available in the members area for scrutiny and comment by 1 June.  If circumstances permit we will try to convene an AGM in the autumn, if not then it will not be held until April 2021.

  • The opening of the KOYLI Gallery in the new museum is postponed until further notice.  This is due to Covid-19 delaying building work and the effect of that on preparing the KOYLI Collection for display.

  • The wreath-laying service at the KOYLI Memorial in Doncaster on 1 August is cancelled.

  • The Minden Day function at South Kirby on 1 August is cancelled.   It is unlikely that indoor entertainment venues will be opening soon.

  • Our Standard Bearers remain stood down until further notice.

  • The annual LI Reunion for 2020 is cancelled.

  • The annual Rifleman’s Gathering in July is cancelled.

Although there may be further easing of the lockdown in the near future we examine them carefully before we apply them in an Association setting.  This is because many of us are elderly and some of us have additional health conditions which may make us more vulnerable than other people.   We will resume our activities as soon as we reasonably can so please be patient and I hope you understand our caution.

In the meantime please keep in touch with each other and let Colin Cranswick or Bob Roberts know if anyone needs help.

Best wishes and keep safe

Graham Whitmore
