Memorial Appeal Update

Update Announcement

14 Feb 2018

It is my intention to update you on the planning and regulatory details we are still pursuing with Doncaster Council and to inform you of our intentions for the day and give preliminary information regarding the Statue miniatures that are being made for us.

ON GOING NEGOTIATIONS WITH DONCASTER MBC

Firstly I’m pleased to report that since we were granted planning permission Doncaster MBC has been very helpful in bringing our special day to a successful conclusion.  Currently Maj.  Derek Searby continues to pursue contractual and insurance issues that have yet to be finalised.  I am awaiting confirmation of a further site recce, and also of our CCTV mast requirements and costing.  So much remains to be done; but I can assure you that on Aug 1st we will dedicate our new Statue exactly 50 years after we lost our proud “County Name”.

The “Extras” we are asking for is the permission to place 4 x White Yorkshire Rose bush on each of the plinth corners so that they do not obstruct our views of the plaques.   We will also request permission to position 4 wooden benches that hopefully, will be donated by individuals. Organisations or even bequests, these will face the Statue where people can sit in contemplation of our Regiment and those who served.  I will be seeking sponsors for these benches at a later time.

MINIATURES

Many of you will have seen the latest pictures of our Splendid Regimental Statue and perhaps some of you will have seen the Miniatures also.  I have provided what I hope are slightly better “shots” of the Miniatures which I personally think, are outstanding and will serve for many years a reminder of what we all belonged to whether or not you served in the Malay, Borneo Jungles, West Germany, Cyprus, or Berlin, they are KOYLI through and through.  Preliminary costs at this time are:

The Bronze Resin miniature on a wooden base is £142-00.  The Silver plated miniature which is Hallmarked on a black gloss base with presentation plaque is £310.00.

HOW TO ORDER MINIATURES

David Wroe is the point of contact for orders of Miniatures.  Send to him, by post, a written request for your order stating which type you would like to order.  The address to send your written request to is:

Enclose a cheque to the value of your order.

  • Bronze Resin: on wooden base £142-00.

  • Hallmarked Silver on raised  8cm black gloss base with presentation / engraving plaque, £310-00.

Orders will be delivered to the Association Office in Pontefract for collection,  If they are to be posted out an additional charge for postage costs will be required.  You should allow 2-4 months for delivery.

TICKETS

We are now beginning to look closely at the Dedication Ceremony and Reception on Aug 1st in Doncaster’s Elmfield Park and Race Course.  In outline; and I must remind everyone it is a ticket only event.

Whilst you do not need a ticket to attend the dedication service, without one you will be treated as a member of the general public and not be allowed into the seating areas, but allowed to watch from outside our perimeter.

A ticket is required for access to the reception area at the Race Course, no ticket no access.

Tickets will be available from Early April and will be distributed as follows:

Every person who has donated £25-00 will be contacted and offered 1 x Ticket, Likewise those who have donated £50-00 or more will be offered 2 x Tickets. Ticket allocation whether individual or group will be restricted to a maximum of 2 x FREE Tickets; though extra Tickets can be purchased and will cost £5.00 each and this will be on a first come first served basis.

Group donations cannot show individuals donations and if we were to apply that scenario we would soon run out of tickets.

We are currently catering for an expected 400 guests.

Tickets will not be available after June 30 nor on sale on the day.

Details will be published via this web site.

OUTLINE OF EVENT

In outline the day will be expected to run as follows:

A coach “Shuttle Service” will be available from the Race Course to Elmfield Park from 1030 –1130 hrs for those who wish to initially park at the Race Course. Parking across from the entrance of the Race course is free. Any area is for use. Details to follow.

All guests are to be seated in Elmfield Park by no later than 1145 Hrs, where a band will be entertaining everyone until the arrival of the VIPs.

The dedication service will begin at 1200 hrs and end at 1245 hrs.  There will then be the opportunity for those that wish to, to take advantage of the Photographer we have booked to be photographed in front of our new statue.

The Coach Shuttle service will begin to move everyone from Elmfield Park to the Reception at the Racecourse from 1300 – 1345 hrs

Following the reception Coaches will again be available for those who require a lift back to the Main Council office area in Town.

FINANCES

Percy continues to chase down income from all sources, so please don’t let up on our drive for income for our project. Some of you may remember Neil Lowe who left the Bn. in 1963, his family have offered all proceeds of a charity ball to be held in his memory to our project, which is an outstanding offer, for which I will attend and thank them on our behalf, and details of this event are on our media sites.

DRESS, PROTOCOL AND STANDARDS

I need not mention this, but it is hoped that many of our attendees will wear suitable attire with medals.  Flags and Standards will be on parade, the program will contain details of Anthems and Salutes and other information that you will be required to observe, you are asked where physically possible to adhere to these requirements.

SUMMARY

We continue to move in the required direction, and I’m confident that on Aug 1st in Doncaster we will have an event worthy of our Regiment.  This may well be one of the last major gatherings of our KOYLI family, and as such we wish it to be remembered for all the right reasons. To achieve this we need everyone’s support and timely action with regards to tickets and attendance.
